Pricing in Both Dinar and Dollar: How to Avoid Losing Money

Many Iraqi businesses accept both dinar and dollars. The risk is quiet: a poor exchange rate at the counter, or change given in the wrong currency, can erode margin over a month.

Choose a base currency

Pick one currency as your main price list, usually IQD for local sales. Show the other as a convenience rather than a second price list you have to maintain.

Set one exchange rate and write it down

Use a single published rate for the day or week and put it where staff can see it. Update it when the market moves meaningfully, not every time a customer asks.

Rules for change

  • Give change in the currency the customer paid in whenever you can.
  • Do not mix currencies in one transaction unless your system records both parts.
  • Count the drawer separately for each currency at the end of the shift.

Keep reporting simple

Your reports should clearly show how much of the day was taken in each currency, and what the total is in your base currency. TU2 is built cash-first for IQD and USD side by side, and cash is always free of fees.

Built for how operations in Iraq actually work, not translated from somewhere else.
